Description

The LEMI-424 is a long-period magnetotelluric (MT) acquisition system designed for recording low-frequency natural electromagnetic field variations for deep crustal and lithospheric imaging. The system comprises a high-resolution data logger and a three-component analogue fluxgate magnetometer, providing four magnetic and four electric input channels with GPS time synchronisation. High-input-impedance, low-drift analogue front-end electronics and a DC-coupled signal path enable measurement of ultra-long-period signals without high-pass filtering, supporting periods extending to approximately 100,000 seconds. The LEMI-424 is widely deployed in long-period MT surveys, such as AusLAMP deployments, where its low-noise performance, low power consumption, and rugged field design enable continuous autonomous operation over extended deployments. This instrument instance forms part of the AuScope - ANSIR: Research Facilities For Earth Sounding and has been deployed in multiple research surveys across Australia.
