Description

The Phoenix Geophysics MTU-5C is a five-channel magnetotelluric (MT) data acquisition system used to record naturally occurring variations in the Earth’s electric and magnetic fields for passive electromagnetic investigations. The system simultaneously acquires two orthogonal electric field channels and three orthogonal magnetic field channels with GPS-disciplined timing, supporting broadband magnetotelluric observations when deployed with compatible electric dipoles and magnetic field sensors. The MTU-5C supports both standalone and remote-reference survey configurations and is widely used in regional and site-scale magnetotelluric investigations, including studies of crustal and lithospheric structure, mineral systems, geothermal resources, groundwater, and tectonic processes. This instrument instance forms part of the AuScope - ANSIR: Research Facilities For Earth Sounding and has been deployed in multiple research surveys across Australia.
