Description

The Portable Electronic Divided Bar MkII (PEBD) can determine the thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of a rock sample by applying a known temperature differential (of 10C +/- 0.01C) across two of its surfaces and measuring the resulting thermal gradient in both steady-state and transient conditions. These tests take upwards of 30 minutes to perform and require the sample to be no larger than 65mm in diameter, 50mm thick and have two smooth, level, parallel surfaces - rock core segments are ideal.

It is a benchtop unit currently housed in the Petrophysics laboratory at the University of Melbourne but can be easily transported offsite for use.
